H1N1 influenza virus appearing again with fatal cases


Three deaths due to H1N1 influenza virus were recorded in May in the Sultanate of Oman, as announced by the Ministry of Health of the Gulf countries. In a statement quoted by the official news agency OMA, the minister said that “82 new cases of H1N1 have been recorded during May, including three fatal cases.” He did not elaborate on the exact extent of the disease, or on the date of its appearance in the Sultanate.

In January, two men died of influenza A (H1N1) in northern Spain, according to the authorities of that country.

In 2009, the Omani authorities conducted a campaign of vaccination against pandemic influenza H1N1, which killed thousands of people in the world according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
